Born into a middle-class family with no business background — first entrepreneur in 4 generations. Failed 3 times. Built 5 profitable ventures. Now on a mission to help every MSME and startup in India grow.
Born into a middle-class family in a small Rajasthan town, Varun Surana had no roadmap, no family business to fall back on, and no safety net. He was the first person in four generations to choose entrepreneurship — at a time when most families in his community considered a government job the safest path to security.
He started small, made bold moves, and paid the price. He tried his hands in 8 ventures and failed in 3 of them — not quietly, but painfully. Bounced EMIs. Heavy debt. Zero personal life. Zero savings. There were months when the weight of failure was crushing.
"I realised that doing small things is easy — but doing big things needs a lot of dedication, knowledge, and passion. I re-invested in my knowledge and skills, promised myself not to give up, and started taking regular guidance from my mentors, coaches, and elder brother."
Today, Varun owns 5 profitable ventures with a client club of 1,000+, has trained thousands of directors, CEOs, managers, and sales professionals across India, and is on an active mission to transform the growth trajectory of every MSME and SME in the country.
A raw, honest account of the journey — every high, every crash, and every turning point that shaped India's most relatable business consultant.
Began his career as a DJ during college — performing for global brands like Mercedes, Microsoft, and Pizza Hut. Played at a gig with 12,000+ audience in 2009. Eventually founded what became Central India's biggest DJing academy.
🎧 First VentureAt 21, Varun lost his father. Chose to return to his hometown (population: 20,000) to support his mother. Was offered a government clerk position — and turned it down. Instead, he started a computer training centre, pasting posters himself late at night to attract students.
💪 Refused the Easy PathHis computer centre grew. With family support and modest savings, he started a small school. Used creative bootstrapping — a second-hand Xerox machine, phone recharge franchises, and railway ticketing — to fund growth and increase footfall. Did well consistently.
📈 GrowingHis mother and wife pushed him to dream bigger — "kuch bada kiya jae." He moved to Udaipur. But some wrong decisions made early on pushed everything to the edge. He started wondering if he'd be destroyed while chasing something big — "Bade ki jagah barbaad na ho jau."
⚠️ Darkest PhaseA daughter was born — the first girl child in the family in 53 years. While celebrating new life, the business was in crisis. Delayed payments, bounced EMIs, overdue bills — all hidden from the world. Only Varun and his wife Yamini knew how bad things really were.
👶 Personal & Professional CrisisOne night, feeling utterly broken, Varun opened up to his elder brother. A 3-hour conversation. He cried. And from that conversation — "Ek ummid ki kiran jaagi thi." He re-invested in knowledge, took mentorship seriously, rebuilt systems, and made a loud public commitment never to quit again.
☀️ The Turning PointToday, the 10-day turnover of Varun's business equals the entire annual revenue of 2010. Brand Chanakya, MSME Story, DigiB Card, and One2All are live, growing, and contributing to a larger mission — making India's MSMEs unstoppable.
🏆 Mission ModeFor years, Varun lived with a painful trade-off: either be present in business or be present at home. He refused to accept that. That refusal — that burning need for an AND option — is what drove the transformation. It's also the exact reason he consults MSMEs and entrepreneurs today.
He doesn't want any business owner to face what he faced alone. He paid the full price so you don't have to.
